Site Maintenance Fabrication
When the site maintenance team realised that I could weld, they started sending a few fabrication projects my way. These have included a steel grille, to prevent a first floor window from being kicked out by students (unfortunately this had become a regular occurrence), reattaching the hinges on some huge external gates to the AstroTurf pitches after one fell off and several other smaller projects.
A nice, snug fitting grille that I built to protect this window vent.
These windows were situated in a corridor space next to the lift. Students accumulated here at various points during the day and would kick these low level window vents.
Site team had reattached the vents multiple times, but none of the fixing methods they tried stopped the students from repeatedly kicking out these vents.
I was asked to make a set of protective grilles to prevent this.
Solidly affixed to the window frames, these grilles weren't going to go anywhere.
Which was a good job as when these ventilation panels were knocked out, they fell directly above an external door. A serious safety hazard.
From the outside the grilles are nearly invisible.
Though now, people entering or leaving the building are safe.
